Smokey Bear’s Message: “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires”

For almost 60 years Smokey Bear has been informing both children and adults about the dangers of forest fires.While Smokey Bear’s slogan for many of those years was “Only you can prevent forest fires”, the slogan has now been changed to face the challenge of the large number of wildfires that erupt in the U.S. every year.

Smokey Bear’s new slogan “Only you can prevent wildfires” was changed by the Ad Council, with input from the U.S. Forest Service, and the National Association of State Foresters to help raise awareness of the dangers of wildfires.

Increasing wildfire awareness is the number one goal of Smokey Bear.Raging wildfires seem to increase in number every year, and building wildfire awareness in children and adults is the best way to fight those fires.While some wildfires burn due to “natural” events, most wildfires are preventable if citizens take proper precautions against wildfires while visiting Smokey’s forests.The Smokey Bear campaign is a valuable tool designed to install awareness in citizens about the costly damages resulting from the hundreds of wildfires that blaze every year.

Smokey Bear is an American icon who has been fighting wildfires since 1944. Although his slogan has evolved over the years his message still rings true, “Only you can prevent Wildfires”.
